Yellow Brass (70% Copper/30% Zinc) is the most common brass used when manufacturing a brass instrument and is considered to have a typically brighter sound. With a higher copper content, Rose Brass (85% Copper/15% Zinc) will have a reddish tint and produce a warmer, more rounded tone.

Choosing between a lacquer finish and a silver-plated instrument is ultimately a personal aesthetic preference for the musician, as the raw brass of the instrument beneath will remain the same. Some musicians will find that a lacquered instrument may have a more mellow tone compared to a silver-plated instrument, which may have a slightly more resonant tone due to being a thinner finish material than lacquer.
