    Mr. Ryan Murrell is a native of Homewood, AL where he graduated from Homewood High School in 2003. Mr. Murrell attended college at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL. While at JSU, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and Liberal Arts. He marched in the Marching Southerners as a trumpet player and later to become Drum Major. He was also involved in Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and the JSU Brass Quintet. He helped found the Mu Iota Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi: Honorary Music Fraternity and became its first Chapter President in March 2009. He studied trumpet under Dr. Cameron "Chip" Crotts and Dr. John Merriman. He studied conducting under Dr. Kenneth Bodiford and Mr. Jeremy Stovall. Currently Mr. Murrell is pursuing his Master's Degree in Music Education from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, GA. Mr. Murrell began his teaching career in Roanoke, AL at Handley High School as the Interim Band Director in 2011. He then became the Band Director at Calera High School in Calera, AL. in 2012. In his first year at Calera, the band received numerous Superior Ratings in marching band competitions, won several parade band competitions, and was selected to represent Alabama in the 57th Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington DC on January 21, 2013. At the end of his year, he became the Director of Bands at Baldwin High and the Fine Arts Director of Baldwin County Schools. He then took the Baldwin Band to perform in the McDonalds Thanksgiving Day Parade in Chicago, IL. Mr. Murrell is a member of GMEA (Georgia Music Educators Association) and NAfME (National Association for Music Education). Mr. Murrell is married to his best friend and wife, Wendy, and they have two dogs, Calvin and Hattie. They are expecting their first song named Alex in May.
